What percentage

30 is 25% of 120, because 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25.

Percentage change

A price going from 50 to 65 is a 30% increase: (65 − 50) ÷ 50 × 100 = 30. Going from 80 to 60 is a 25% decrease.

Good to know

  • Percentage change is (new − original) ÷ |original| × 100. A change from an original value of zero has no percentage, so it is reported as an error.
